The GTO's Strategy
  • Breaking the "toilet taboo" through innovative, progressive and positive forms of communication. Clean toilets and sustainable wastewater treatment should be seen as a critical component of human health and development.
  • Raising awareness through progressive campaigns and publicity aimed at normalising sanitation issues in the popular consciousness.
  • Encouraging the public to view faeces and urine as a potential resource by suggesting alternative solutions for their disposal e.g. as fertiliser.
  • Spreading knowledge of economic and environmental friendly approaches, which provide advantages for users and providers of toilet facilities and wastewater treatment systems. Solutions should always be integrated into the local culture, with particular regard to the economic, climatic and technical conditions of the particular location.
  • Learning through the collection and evaluation of data and the smart management of knowledge.
