For a toiletised world - November 19 is World Toilet Day
Together with over 100 students, who took part in the "Toiletised World" project, the GTO will stage a rally at Berlin's Alexanderplatz in order to draw attention to the crisis in global sanitation.
Beneath the World Clock, the students will highlight the serious situation in Haiti and draw attention to the underestimated importance of sanitation provisions. Haiti is currently being ravished by a cholera epidemic which has already claimed over 1000 lives. Cholera is the result of inadequate sanitation systems and hygiene.
The press is invited to attend the press conference at 10:00, taking place in the Play venue, followed by a photo call with 100 students at 10:45 at the World Clock at Alexanderplatz. Detailed information can be found in the press invitation link below.

'Toiletised World' – the German Toilet Organisation's educational workshop series for schools and students.
In 2010, the GTO once again organised an educational workshop series together with five Berlin based high schools to raise awareness of the need for adequate sanitation solutions at home and in developing countries. For one whole day 'the toilet' became the focus for 14 – 26 year old students. During this project students tackled with issues surrounding the crisis in sanitation provisions in developing countries as well as the conditions of the facilities at their own schools. The GTO would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants for their enthusiasm and engagement.
Wilma-Rudolph High School
Following last year's successful workshop, GTO was once again guest at Wilma-Rudolph in Zehlendorf, Berlin – this time in the pupil's geography class. Despite their impending school exams, the high school seniors used their previously gained knowledge constructively while engaging in new perspectives in the hygiene and sanitation challenges faced by much of the world.
Kurt-Schwitters High School
The project was kicked off at the Kurt-Schwitters High School where 29 students of the 9th Grade engaged creatively with the workshop. An artistic focus, emphasised in the school's ethos, was reflected in the various presentations. We are keen to see what the students choose to present at the World Toilet Day 2010.
Leonardo da Vinci Grammar School
This year, the GTO had the pleasure to once again work with the Buckow based Leonardo da Vinci Grammar School. The students of the 9th grade showed sincere empathy for the miserable sanitation provisions, with which people in many countries are faced. They developed numerous ideas on how to bring more public attention this difficult situation.
Bettina-von-Arnim High School
The Bettina-von-Armim High School chose to again participate in the Toiletised World project. The students of the 9th grade showed great interest during the workshop and joined in a lively debate with the school janitor and school administration on the conditions and issues concerning their own school toilets.
Max-Taut School
Future technicians in the fields of sanitation, heating and climate control at the Max-Taut School in Lichtenberg join us in thinking beyond the common domestic toilet system and explored different toilet cultures and innovative sanitation solutions. We were able to gain new insights from the significant technical knowledge provided by the students.
