Newsletter of the GTO

In the following, GTO provides information on the contents of its newsletters: on the registration, dispatch and statistical evaluation procedures as well as on the rights of users to object. By subscribing to one or more newsletters, subscribers agree to the procedure described below.

Contents of the Newsletter

On the GTO website you can currently subscribe to three different newsletters. 1) In the GTO-newsletter “Toilettenpapier” (toilet paper, in German only) the GTO informs once every three months about the work of the organisation and the activities as a member / secretariat of the German WASH Network. 2) In its newsletter on course-offerings, GTO announces new seminar dates and other educational news. 3) The “Toiletten machen Schule” newsletter contains regular information about the German school competition and the general subject of school toilets. The newsletters are only sent with the consent of the recipients.
In order to avoid abusive registration, the newsletter registration takes place in a so-called double opt-in procedure. After the registration the registered person receives an e-mail with the request for confirmation of the registration. The registrations are logged, in order to be able to prove the registration process, according to legal requirements. This includes the storage of the registration and confirmation times as well as the IP address.

Deployment of the Dispatch Service “MailChimp”

The newsletters are sent via “MailChimp”, a newsletter distribution platform of the US provider Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE #5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA.
MailChimp stores the personal data of the recipients of the GTO newsletters on servers in the USA. The information is used to send the newsletters on behalf of the GTO. MailChimp is certified under the US-EU data protection agreement “Privacy Shield”. The platform commits to comply with EU data protection regulations. The GTO has signed a “Data Processing Agreement” with MailChimp and trusts in the reliability and the IT and data security of the provider. MailChimp’s privacy policy can be viewed here.

Statistical Surveys

MailChimp collects technical information via the newsletter server, such as information on the subscribers’ browser, the IP address and the time of retrieval. These data are used for technical improvements of the services. GTO does not evaluate this information.

Withdrawal of Consent

Subscribers can cancel the GTO Newsletter at any time, i. e. revoke their consent. This is possible via a link at the end of each newsletter. By using the link, MailChimp's consent to the sending of newsletters and the statistical analysis expires.

Social media

GTO maintains profiles on the social networks Facebook and Twitter as well as on the video platform YouTube in order to inform about the organisation’s work and to communicate with interested parties.

The data of the users of the online presences may be processed outside the territory of the European Union, which makes it difficult, for example, to enforce user rights.

When visiting the online presences, profiles can be created on the basis of the interests of the users, which could be used for market research and advertising purposes. This is usually done through the use of cookies.

For more information on the respective processing operations and the opt-out options, the GTO refers to the information provided by the providers. For requests for information and the assertion of user rights, the respective provider should be contacted, as only this provider has full access to the collected user data.
