How can German schools ensure infection prevention at school toilets and washrooms?
Adequate protection against infections must be ensured in order to be able to reopen the schools. For this purpose, comprehensive measures in the field of sanitation and hygiene are urgently needed and must be assured for the long term. This discussion paper makes a short-term contribution to ensure hygiene standards and at the same time provides long-term impulses for prioritising sanitation and hygiene in schools. The COVID-19 crisis should be seen as an opportunity to change the current conditions positively in the long term.
The discussion paper is an initiative of the German Toilet Organization (GTO) in cooperation with the Institute for Hygiene and Public Health of the University of Bonn. It contains concrete recommendations for immediate measures in schools to ensure sanitary hygiene during the COVID-19 crisis. The Federal Parents' Council is a co-signatory and expressly supports this discussion. The Federal Parents’ Council coordinates parental involvement at federal level.
